From the capital city of Bern, I drove through the Krauchtal Valley to Burgdorf to the first photo spot at the foot of the castle. After that it went into Emmental. In the region of Lueg, I immediately noticed that the Grand Tour does not only lead over wide roads, but often also over more remote roads. The drive through the villages, along the gardens and farms was a feast for the eyes.
Hallwyl Castle is a very popular destination for Swiss and foreign tourists alike when the summer weather is fine. A medieval market was just taking place at the moat and bakers, brewers and butchers were inviting visitors to snack in the inner courtyard.
When I was looking for a Navi at a motorbike shop in Lucerne, there was a Ducati meeting at the ACE Cafe Lucerne next door. Dozens of machines of all models and vintages gathered for the common show. So I lined up my Monster and spent a short time in expert company that makes every biker's heart beat faster.
A word about the Landgasthof Rössli in Adligenswil, where I spent my first night of the Grand Tour. The Rössli is located just outside Lucerne. But the few minutes drive was well worth it. I was able to park the bike at the shelter next to the hotel in safety from the approaching thunderstorm. The room was perfect, the reception warm and now we come to dinner: The restaurant is Gault-Millault and Michelin listed and a member of the guild. Owner and waitress had absolutely no problems with the sparse wardrobe of a tourer. So, in the beautiful garden, I enjoyed a delicious dinner. I will definitely remember this address for future trips.
